Student Beaten to Death Over Alleged Theft of Bucket and Jerican at Abongomola Seed Secondary School

Kwania district-Tragedy struck at Abongomola Seed Secondary School in the early hours of Wednesday when a Senior Four student was beaten to death by a group of fellow students who accused him of stealing the bucket and jericans from boy’s dormitory.

The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Lukori Solomon, a boarding student from Imeny Village, Apolika Parish, Chawente Sub-county in Kwania District.

According to reports, at around 00:05 hours hungry and frustrated students accused Solomon Lukori of stealing their property. They allegedly chased him, overpowered the school watchmen, and pursued him for approximately 400 metres towards Ogwok Trading Centre.

He was apprehended, assaulted with sticks and bricks, and later dragged back to the school premises where he was taken to the staff room and succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Speaking to our reporter a student at the school, Solomon Ocen who also hailed from the same village with deceased, expressed shock at the allegations, stating that the deceased was known at home as a well-behaved boy who did not steal people’s property.

Ronald Opio, the Sub-county Internal Security Officer confirmed the incident and said the investigations into the matter have commenced, assuring that authorities will pursue the case to its logical conclusion.

The case was reported to police at 02:34 hours by Adupa Stephen, the school’s Deputy Headteacher.

According to the report issued to Jimmy Patrick Okema the North Kyoga police spokeperskn  police in Kwania have registered a case of murder and investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest all those involved in the mob attack.”Two student leaders, Egaru Douglas and Okello Ivan James, have been arrested to assist with investigations.” He stated.

Okema also stated that the school administration and the deceased’s parents have recorded statements with police.

The incident forced school authorities to abruptly close the first term and request police intervention to safeguard school property from angry students and members of the surrounding community.

Police have strongly condemned the incident, warning the public against taking the law into their own hands. Authorities emphasized that while citizens have the right to apprehend suspected offenders under Section 15 of the Criminal Procedure Code Act and hand them over to police under Section 16, mob justice is unlawful and punishable.

The body has been conveyed to Aduku Health Center IV, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
