The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has directed the Lira City Clerk to immediately interdict Lira City Statistician Denis Okello Ayini following his arraignment before court on allegations of uttering forged documents.
According to a press statement issued on Monday, June 22, 2026, Ayini is facing charges in Criminal Case No. 407 of 2026 before the Chief Magistrate’s Court. He is accused of uttering forged documents, an offence contrary to Sections 328 and 324 of the Penal Code Act.
The Inspectorate said the directive was issued in accordance with Article 230(2) of the Constitution of Uganda and Section 13(6) of the Inspectorate of Government Act, which empower the Inspector General of Government to order the interdiction of public officers facing criminal prosecution.
The IG explained that the interdiction is intended to prevent the accused official from continuing to exercise the powers and responsibilities of his office while criminal proceedings are ongoing.
The Lira City Clerk has been instructed to implement the directive with immediate effect and ensure compliance as the court process takes its course.
