Lecturers at All Saints University Lango have been challenged to move beyond relying on knowledge generated by scholars from other parts of the world and instead focus on producing innovative research that addresses societal challenges.
The call was made by Dr. Laury Lawrance Ocen, a lecturer at Lira University, while delivering a keynote address during the end-of-semester celebration organized by the Faculty of Business Administration and Management at the university’s Business and Management Square on saturday.
Dr. Ocen emphasized that universities have a critical responsibility not only to disseminate knowledge but also to generate new ideas and solutions that can transform communities.
“Knowledge must be put into motion. Any knowledge that remains stagnant is a waste of ideas,” he said, urging members of the faculty to take their expertise beyond the university walls and apply it to solving real-world problems.
He noted that institutions of higher learning should serve as centers of innovation and research, producing knowledge that responds to local and global challenges rather than merely consuming what has already been produced elsewhere by scholars.
According to Dr. Ocen, lecturers should actively engage in research and publication to increase their academic visibility and contribute to the university’s growth and reputation.
“Believe in yourselves and begin writing articles that can be published in reputable journals. People from different parts of the world will read your work, and this will market both you and the university locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally,” he said.

Dr. Ocen further challenged the Faculty of Business Administration and Management to position itself as a center of excellence whose innovations can be emulated by other departments within the university.
The Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Edward Peace Obura Onep, commended the faculty for introducing innovative initiatives such as online appraisal systems and the digital dissemination of examination results.
He described the innovations as important steps toward improving efficiency and enhancing the university’s development agenda.”The creativity demonstrated by the Faculty of Business Administration and Management will help propel All Saints University Lango to another level in terms of development, innovation, and self-motivation,” he said.
Obura Onep also appealed to lecturers and other university staff to remain united and committed to advancing the institution despite the challenges it faces.

The Acting Academic Registrar, Pius Okello, praised the faculty for spearheading initiatives aimed at improving students’ welfare and academic excellence.”This idea is excellent and will contribute to making the university a center of excellence in both academic performance and student growth,” he said.
Okello noted that All Saints University Lango has registered significant growth since 2014 and currently offers a wide range of academic programmes, from certificate courses to master’s degree programmes.
“We have various programmes, including graduate programmes and postgraduate diplomas in Public Administration and Management, Education, among others,” he said.
He added that the university is planning to introduce additional programmes, including postgraduate diplomas in Urban Planning and Governance, Infrastructure Development, and other specialized fields.

The Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration and Management, Bonny Ferdinand Okello Alele, said the opportunities provided by the university should be utilized to benefit lecturers, students, and the institution as a whole.
He expressed his ambition to make the faculty a leading department in promoting quality education and innovation within the university.
“We introduced online appraisal and digital dissemination of examination results to address students’ concerns about delays in accessing their results and to improve service delivery,” he said.
