Uganda’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has opened the door for local businesses to compete for contracts linked to the continental football tournament, announcing the start of a nationwide supplier pre-qualification exercise.
The move marks the beginning of the procurement phase for Uganda’s preparations to co-host the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON PAMOJA 2027 alongside Kenya and Tanzania, with tenders expected to start rolling out in September and October.
Addressing journalists in Kampala on Wednesday, July, 22, 2026, Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, Chairperson of the LOC Communications and Promotion Sub-Committee, said the committee is building a database of qualified suppliers who will later be invited to bid for contracts.
“We invite all qualified, experienced and reputable potential suppliers to register their interest by registering for pre-qualification. The LOC shall commence launching its tenders in the period September/October 2026,” Mugimba said.
The opportunities cover a broad range of services, including hospitality, catering, transport logistics, ICT, media and communications, branding, security, medical services, consultancy, event management, documentary production, fan parks and office supplies.
Mugimba emphasized that registration is free of charge, urging businesses to be wary of fraudsters seeking to exploit the process. He added that only firms that successfully complete the pre-qualification exercise will be invited to submit bids once procurement begins.
To qualify, companies must be legally registered in Uganda, compliant with tax obligations, registered with the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA), financially sound and free from litigation or records of contract non-performance.
The LOC, however, clarified that not every AFCON-related contract will be handled locally. According to Mugimba, some services, including ticketing and television broadcasting, will be procured directly by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) under regional contracts covering all three host nations.
He also explained that procurement for AFCON-related activities being implemented by government ministries, departments and agencies will be conducted independently by the respective institutions rather than the LOC.
Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania will make history in 2027 as the first East African nations to jointly host the Africa Cup of Nations.
