A 54-year-old man from Aromo Sub-county in Lira District has lost part of his right ear following a violent domestic altercation with his jilted wife over a dispute involving a Shs500 debt.

According to Dicken Acar, the LC1 Chairperson of Apua A Village in Apua Parish, Aromo Sub-county, the victim, Bonny Opio, commonly known as Jilman, got into a fight with his jilted wife, Sharon Adong, 28, after she reportedly demanded payment of the money for Alcohol she had given him.

Acar said the couple, who had earlier disagreed over the debt, engaged in a heated argument that quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. During the fight, Opio allegedly grabbed and assaulted his wife before she retaliated by attacking him with a sharp object.

He explained that residents initially thought the couple was involved in an ordinary domestic quarrel, only to realize the severity of the situation when part of Opio’s right ear was cut off during the confrontation.

Local residents rushed Opio to a nearby health facility, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

Acar noted that the incident occurred at Te-Omum Trading Centre and is the third serious case of assault involving sharp objects recorded in the area. Similar incidents involving two men and one woman were reported in 2022 and 2025.

He expressed concern over the rising trend of violence in the community and revealed that local leaders have intensified efforts to promote peace and conflict resolution among residents to prevent similar incidents.

A health worker attending to Opio confirmed that the injury was severe but said medical personnel were doing everything possible to fix his ear after he was rushed to the facility in critical condition.
